Flux #20 - Crowdfunding, New Members, Community Building, And More

expression that flows

Happy March everyone :)

It’s been an exciting month and a half. As many of you may know, we just finished raising $106,949 in a 30 day Kickstarter campaign without running any ads. Thank you again for all of your support, conviction, and generosity.

We took a week to recollect and plan ahead. Here are some important updates to note moving forward:

  1. We’ve extended our crowdfunding campaign through Indiegogo InDemand to enable more people to get involved in these early stages. If you’d like to gain free lifetime access to Junto, reserve your username, receive some swag (and more), you can check it out here. You will be able to contribute up until we launch.

  2. We’re looking for engineers to build the next generation of social media with us. I wrote a description of what we’re about and who we’re looking for in a previous Flux. If you resonate with this mission, feel free to take a look here.

  3. Our community is growing. If you’d like to be involved in a more intimate basis, come join our Junto Pack. We have an official communication channel on Slack and before joining the conversation, we ask that you first set up an intro call with our teammate Yaz. You can start by filling out this Typeform here and she will reach out to you with next steps.

  4. Junto will now be co-hosting official Holochain meetups in New York City. Stay tuned for an announcement about the next event and expect more consistent gatherings to connect, learn, and collaborate.

On top of this, we have quite a few more exciting developments on their way. We’ll be back with more soon.

- Eric

What’s new

  • Due to a stream of requests, we’ve extended our crowdfunding campaign to Indiegogo InDemand. Check it out here!

  • Drea put together a video that explains the importance of decentralization. Have a look!

  • Whoops, the cat’s out of the bag. Take a look at all our secrets here.

  • We open sourced our Holochain application here. Feel free to watch an hour long conversation about our architecture below and reach out to josh@junto.foundation if you have any questions.

  • We’re looking for two engineers to join us. Below is a description of what we’re about and who we’re looking for. If you want to help bring this to life or know someone who might be a good fit, don’t hesitate to reach out at eric@junto.foundation. https://junto.substack.com/p/flux-13-create-with-us

Here’s what our team found valuable this week:

From Drea:

Distributed applications are interesting as heck kids!!! And they seriously have the potential to change how the world works. 😱

To me, one of the biggest bummers is when I hear people say the “tech side” of things is too complicated for them to understand. This video above is the first of a series that aims to simplify back-end concepts of distributed applications. Learning is for everyone ~~~ waaaaahhhoooooo!

From Yaz:

There’s a wonderful place called “Bagel World” right on our corner. Come by, I’ll buy you a bagel (gluten free options available) and we can dance to this song.

We want your feedback.

Like what you see? Share it! Think we can be doing things better? Let us know. We’re open to ideas so DM us at hi@junto.foundation or drop any of the team members a note at their individual emails listed on our website here.
