Flux #54 | July Monthly Review
Hey there,
Hi friends — it’s Tomis — jumping into your inbox with our Junto July review :-)
Code Refactor
The dev team has spent the vast majority of the last month working on a code refactor. We’re building our Holochain application with not one, but two, emerging technologies. Our very own Joshua Parkin is building AD4M with former Holochain core developer, Nicolas Luck. This past month, the AD4M ontology got refactored to simplify its interface and the AD4M-executor got refactored to improve code quality and its GraphQL interface. A testing infrastructure was added to both the AD4M-executor and our Holochain application to ensure breaking changes won’t be introduced in the future. All of this work has improved and stabilized the application.
Path towards MVP
It made sense to do this refactor work now, as we’re waiting on a Holochain update to fix a Wasmer memory leak and concurrency bug. We’re expecting those issues to be fixed within the next couple of weeks, so in the meantime we’re working on the last few things we need to complete before we can share an MVP with you all — a security vulnerability and a few final UX/UI improvements. We know it is a moving target, but we feel pretty confident we’ll be there in a month from now.
Legal Structure & New Fundraising Opportunities
We’ve been busy on the non-tech/operations side of things, as well. We’ve made a decision to make a pretty substantial change to our legal structure at Junto Foundation. There are two main factors that have moved us in this direction — flexibility and fundraising. Hey, look at that, they both start with F.
We are working with some really great lawyers on this new structure that we feel will help preserve our values and accelerate our progress. When we have solidified a few more details in this process we will be sharing a larger update about the implications and opportunities this shift will provide.
ISO: Holochain Developer & PT UX Designer
Speaking of growing this project — we need more developers! We are looking for another Holochain developer to join the team, as well as a part-time UX/UI Designer. If that is you, please get in touch with Eric (eric@junto.foundation). If that’s someone you know, please share this opportunity. We are a small team with a wonderful culture and things are going be heating up soon…now is a great time to get in on the fun :-)
Until next time,
Tomis
